2015 SDSU

SDSU - Daily Aztec Review

“On the Eve” is an indie-rock metaplay that modernizes history. Seth Magill and Shawn Magill of the band, Home by Hovercraft, joined their lyrics and music with Michael Frederico’s book of the same name to create a tongue-in-cheek time-traveling experience.

Audience members are left using their imagination to find the reality within the play, which placed them in a trance-like wonder. The audience was left in a constant state of shock and awe interrupted with moments of bursting laughter. “The audience can use their imagination to make up what (the play) will look like,” professor and the play’s musical director Robert Meffe said. “It’s a real fun experience and a unique one for an audience. It’s not what we see in a San Diego theater.”

SDSU and La Jolla Playhouse Collaborate on New Musical ON THE EVE

The MFA Musical Theatre Program at San Diego State University is once again teaming up with La Jolla Playhouse to develop a new musical, following up on their collaboration on the reading of BD Wong's new musical MR. DOCTOR last February. This year, after a competitive selection process, the musical ON THE EVE has been chosen for a public staged reading at SDSU on November 19, 2015 at 6:30pm in the Experimental Theatre.

ON THE EVE is the creation of Seth Magill, Shawn Magill, and Michael Federico with a book by Michael Federico and lyrics and music by Seth Magill and Shawn Magill of the indie rock band, Home by Hovercraft. SDSU Professor Stephen Brotebeck will direct the reading and Professor Robert Meffe will provide musical direction.
